How To Refund A MOTO Or Manual Transaction
How to process a refund when the card is not present
Manual card entry (MOTO) and refunds are bank-approved features. They are only enabled on your terminal after your bank approves them and instructs Eftpos NZ directly. For any query about MOTO functionality, contact the bank that provides your merchant facility.
To process a refund you will need your manager or merchant password. If you do not know your password, call the Technical Helpdesk on 0800 338 767. You will need to be a listed director or owner to set up or change the merchant password.
If your terminal is connected to the Paymark network, you will need a refund card and PIN. Request these from Paymark.
- On the Payment screen, enter the refund amount on the keypad and tap Other
- Tap Refund
- Enter your passcode
- Tap the menu icon
on the present card screen, then tap Manual Card Entry - Enter the customer's card number. Tap Enter, then tap Confirm
- Enter the card expiry date in MM/YY format
- The terminal processes the refund and displays Approved or Declined. It may prompt for a signature
- The merchant receipt prints
- If email receipts are available on your terminal, you can email the customer their copy
For your customer's security, the terminal does not display the full card number on screen. You can also read about Manager and Cashier refund limits.
