To process transactions, your terminal needs to connect to the Verifone network via Wi-Fi or mobile data. You can also connect your CM5 to a mobile hotspot.
If you are experiencing connectivity issues, see tips on Troubleshooting the Carbon Mobile here.
You will be prompted to connect to a Wi-Fi network when you first turn on your CM5.
The terminal can remember multiple Wi-Fi networks, so you don’t have to re-enter them when switching networks/locations.
To connect your terminal to a new Wi-Fi network:
- Swipe down from the Notification bar at the top of the screen and tap and hold the Wi-Fi icon
- Select your network from the available networks list
- Enter your Wi-Fi password and tap CONNECT.
NOTE: For security reasons, your CM5 cannot connect to a public Wi-Fi network.
If you ordered a fully mobile terminal, your CM5 will be delivered with a SIM card already installed. A fixed monthly SIM fee applies for mobile connectivity.
To view more detail about your mobile connectivity, navigate to Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile network.
A mobile hotspot uses your data plan on a device to create a Wi-Fi network that can be used by other devices. For example, you can enable a Mobile Hotspot from your mobile phone and connect your CM5 to the Hotspot to process transactions.
- Turn your Mobile Hotspot on
- On your CM5, navigate to Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi and select the Hotspot network from the available network list
- Enter your mobile hotspot password
NOTE: We don’t recommend transacting over a hotspot long-term. Software updates for your CM5 can be 500mb or greater, which could incur high data charges.
Aeroplane mode turns off all connections including Mobile data, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. While Aeroplane mode is enabled, you can turn Wi-Fi and Bluetooth back on from the Quick Settings panel.
Tap the Aeroplane mode Quick Setting Icon on the Quick Setting menu or navigate to Settings > Network & Internet and scroll down to toggle Aeroplane mode on and off.
NOTE: We don’t recommend putting your terminal in Aeroplane mode as it will disrupt payment network connectivity.
