Offline Mode allows you to process transactions when your terminal can’t connect to the internet. Without an internet connection, your terminal can’t communicate with the payment network to process your transactions. Instead, transactions are securely stored on the terminal until connection to the internet is restored and the transactions can be processed.
How Offline Mode works
Your terminal will automatically enter Offline Mode if a financial transaction fails twice due to:
- a connection error, or;
- availability of the payment network, or;
- failure to clear a pending transaction.
A Warning icon will display in the Notification bar. The notification card will confirm your terminal is in Offline Mode and prompt you to perform a manual logon to attempt to exit Offline Mode.
Transacting in offline mode
In some cases, your CM5 may prompt for PIN entry if a chip card is used while in Offline Mode. Otherwise, your CM5 will prompt you to capture your customer’s signature. Signatures are captured via the touchscreen on the CM5. Learn more about signature capture on the CM5 here.
IMPORTANT: Offline Mode is not designed to function as a secondary communications method. It is intended as an emergency continuation of processing capability.
